Our story

SOULBASE is an independent platform exploring the spaces and moments where we disconnect to reconnect. From print publications and books to online interviews and essays, we celebrate interior, art, design, and travel through the voices of creative practitioners and the charm of overlooked “third spaces.” Our bi-annual print edition travels across Europe and the United States, highlighting places that invite pause — from artist residencies and coffee shops to houseboats, galleries, bakeries, saunas, and wellness retreats. Each feature captures the tension and harmony of brutalist edges softened by warmth, offering a quiet space for reflection and inspiration. Beyond print, SOULBASE publishes a monthly Substack and an online interview series, asking 8 simple questions that reveal the subtle, in-between moments of creative practice. No overthinking — just curiosity, insight, and the voices of those shaping contemporary design and culture. With a creative team spanning two continents, SOULBASE embraces the offline world as much as the online one, acting as a little neighborhood guide to places yet to be discovered. We love print, dialogue, and celebrating the intersection of art and design — always seeking to inspire, connect, and invite a moment of pause in a busy world. Based in Portland, Oregon, SOULBASE is led by Annika Bielig-Bussmann and her creative team spread across two continents.
